Mr. Blackwell Casual Black Dress
People of a certain age will remember Mr. Blackwell's annual Worst Dressed List - out each January - wherein celebs were skewered for their taste, or lack thereof. He deemed Meryl Streep "mother of the bride" and referred to Madonna (who made the list frequently) as "the bare-bottomed bore of Babylon." Presciently, he left Britney Spears off the list in 2007 remarking, "For those of you who were expecting to see Britney's name adorn the 2007 list, I felt that it was inappropriate at this time to make comment, when her personal life is in such upheaval. I hope 2008 is a better year for her."
Most may not know, however, that the man behind the List, Richard Blackwell, was also a clothing designer. This is what must have given him the audacity to have so many opinions on fashion and style. Most of his designs were elegant affairs with beading and sequins, but later in his career as a designer (which ended in 1980) he designed more casual, everyday pieces, including this lovely black day dress.
Aside from one missing button it's in great condition and fits a modern small. And when you wear a Mr. Blackwell you know you'll always stay off the worst dressed list.
