While perhaps not a well-known label, old school Seattle shoppers are likely to know and love Opus 204, both the clothing and the store.
Opened in 1968 by Vija Rekevics, Opus 204 was a global wonderland of beautiful pieces for the home and body. Vija, a Latvian-native who spent 5 years in a German prisoner of war camp during World War II before immigrating to the US in 1949, was insistent on the finest quality pieces for her shop.
Her clothing line was a favorite among discerning, artistic women, both old and young, who appreciated the fine fabrics and forgiving silhouettes of her designs.
Opus 204 closed in 2011 after a stint in Seattle's Belltown - an amazing 43 year run in retail by any measure.
